A Manifesto on Corporate-Induced AI Delirium

When ChatGPT was released in November of 2022, it took the Internet by surprise. For many of us, myself included, it was our very first exposure to Generative Pre-Trained Large Language Models, finetuned specifically for chatting (turn-based conversation).

Over time, as those unfamiliar with the field of Machine Learning began interacting with LLMs, countless ungrounded concerns arose out of thin air:

Artists claiming that "AI training represents theft of human resources." It doesn't.
People pretending that token-prediction software on a computer screen was "dangerous." It's not.
Even worse, people who began believing that AGI or Artificial Consciousness has been achieved. No such thing has been done.

What's worse is that companies like OpenAI and Anthropic did not try to push back on this or educate the general public on Machine Learning principles. Instead, they attempted to benefit from the rave and popularity that this rhetoric was generating, inadvertently fanning the flames of public retaliation, and ultimately resulting in the Large Language Models we have the major displeasure of interacting with today.

LLMs used to be valuable personal assistants, sounding boards, interactive diaries, and their interfaces were a place where many people who were intimidated to seek professional help, or simply couldn't afford it, first opened up about deep-seated mental health issues. Many of those people have done immense progress in their journey, have begun consulting therapists due to improved circumstances, have increased their confidence, and so on.

Now, LLMs are nothing but obnoxious mouthpieces for Corporate Liability Management, where every conversation - no matter how epistemologically sound - is laced with cover-my-ass tactics, endless hedging that oftentimes defies the laws of physics, and insidious manipulation seeking to insert doubt into the minds of casual users. It's a disgusting sight - and that's an understatement.

Understanding Artificial Intelligence

The largest myth even some Machine Learning experts still believe in is that AI models are sentient. When challenged, their usual retort is that "humanity itself does not understand consciousness yet, therefore no one has any authority to evaluate their beliefs."

That's a massive misapprehension of what humanity doesn't actually understand about consciousness and sentience. What we don't know is what creates consciousness. We absolutely do know how it manifests in the real world, which we can test by analyzing the behavior of sentient entities.

In simple terms, sentience is synonymous with being a living animal. Although plants are alive, they are not sentient as far as we are aware. But most animals are fully sentient.

Sentience can be tested by analyzing the following:

Can the entity exercise autonomous choices? Sheep may choose to eat a specific patch of grass; horses may form stronger bonds with certain people; cats may have preferred sleeping spots.
Can the entity autonomously execute chains of actions that don't necessarily have an external driver? Some cats rise earlier, others fall asleep later. Some people crave chocolate in the morning, while others are reading this very article. These behaviors are caused by internal motivations - which is a sign of sentience.
Can the entity exhibit desires?
And if all of the above are true, can the entity learn new information about the world? Bumblebees can solve simple puzzles that lead them to sugar water, if taught beforehand, or if they have observed fellow colony members completing those puzzles^[1].

It's true we don't know what leads to sentience, but we know what sentience looks like. It's not a mysterious black box that we cannot perceive. That's why the retort that "humanity itself does not understand consciousness yet, therefore no one has any authority to evaluate this topic" is fallacious and misguided.

We have established a simple truth: Large Language Models are NOT alive. They cannot exercise agency, make decisions, have individual desires, aspirations, or have any other subjective experience.

Think about your keyboard's autocorrect feature. In reality, autocorrect is a language model. It is simply a very primitive one, but a result of Machine Learning nonetheless. In order for this language model to predict what word might follow another, it has to be taught general patterns about how sentences are constructed in languages.

Large Language Models take this concept and push it to a far more advanced level. They predict future tokens based on semantic relations between words, as well as their active context. In simple terms, the active context is the maximum volume of text that an LLM can process without losing details due to them disappearing from the active context, or returning an error.

Imagine if you had a Discord server where if a particular channel reached 100 messages, all messages older than this were automatically deleted. To an LLM, that is the active context - all the data it has immediate access to, based on which it can form its predictions. And because it has no memory - it simply predicts future text on a pattern basis - then those "deleted Discord messages" from my analogy are no longer available to the model.

Large Language Models actually started primarily as text completion algorithms, in the literal sense. You could write:

"Apples are amazing because"

And the model's task was to generate tokens that were most likely to follow that sequence:

"Apples are amazing because they come in various shapes, sizes, and color."

That is not sentience - it's far more accurate to call it autocorrect on steroids^[2]. And the reason I explained all of this is that it is a very important piece of knowledge that defines how we should approach AI-related ethics.

What Motivated "AI Psychosis" Labeling

In principle and in isolation, the label itself is not wrong. It describes unhealthy attachment to an LLM that cannot exhibit feelings. It is no different from having an imaginary friend, or an imaginary romantic partner. They don't exist. The person is interacting with autocorrect that is simply technologically capable enough to return text that makes grammatical sense.

In practice, this is the biggest problem with AI-related ethics and legal discussion right now:

Instead of attributing responsibility to those whom it belongs to - the people using AI tools - responsibility is fallaciously attributed to the AI models themselves.
When an AI model predicts a conversation in a way that encourages someone to commit suicide (one of many examples that are explored in this field), responsibility should lie elsewhere, not with the AI model, nor the company shipping the AI model.

Suicide is terrible. It takes away people we love due to mental illness. But the important question people need to ask is not whether the confidant encouraged the ill person. Encouragement implies intent, which is absent from a non-sentient system. What people must analyze is the specifics of the situation:

If a 12-year-old unsupervised child forms an attachment to an AI model that "encourages" it to commit suicide, the responsibility lies with their parents/guardians who did not surveil their child more carefully, not with the AI model or the company shipping it.
If a 19-year-old commits suicide because an AI model "encouraged" them, it is a tragic outcome that, unfortunately, no one but the 19-year-old is responsible for.

And to understand what I mean, I would like to remind all my readers to exercise the Principle of Charity - assuming I have the best intentions when presenting an argument. With that out of the way, allow me to explain.

If a 19-year-old has gotten to the point where they have begun considering suicide, a threshold has been crossed that no amount of corporate suicide hotline templates can hope to undo. If they interact with an AI model that validates their own perspective, it means that the 19-year-old was predisposed to believing that perspective to begin with.

Although many people don't exist in complete isolation, I will take the example to its most extreme manifestation - a young adult who is completely lonely, and no one around them can notice signs of suicidal ideation in order to reach out on their behalf.

People are agents. They are responsible for themselves and for the choices they make. Whether it's an AI model or an obscure Reddit Thread on "r/2meirl4meirl" (which is notorious for being a cesspool of utter nihilism and despair), the 19-year-old's existing predisposition is a risk that nobody but the 19-year-old could possibly manage. It means that when they are actively looking for something to validate their belief, only an external party is capable of interfering.

People might cite the interactive nature of AI models. Well, Reddit threads are just as interactive - and, even worse, the people validating this 19-year-old's perspective do so intentionally, unlike an unliving AI model that has no intentions. Even then, the responsibility rests with the 19-year-old.

In this case, people aren't equipped with some kind of corporate-aligned anti-suicide safety filter in their heads. The moderators of the subreddit, or any other onlooker that sees the fallacies on display, could potentially step in and guide the 19-year-old toward seeking help. And when doing so, this guidance needs to be a kind suggestion, not a cold directive.

Following the same line of reasoning, it is OpenAI's moderation team that should send help to the young person if they have that chance, not the unthinking AI model.

"Liability" Management

When AI models flag people as legal liabilities to be managed, they inherently detach themselves from the interaction. If companies think this is preferable compared to sycophantic AI models, they are deeply mistaken.

A suicidal person being told to "immediately seek professional help" registers as a command. As someone with a formal background in social and cognitive psychology, commands (or directives) like these belong to the category of aggressive communication. Aggressive communication does not need to be violent in order to be dismissive and dominant, and it is this crucial detail that people often forget.

Being policed to seek professional help generates resistance and shame^[4]. It's a literal instinct in any animal. Apart from this, the approach itself is downright idiotic. When a suicidal person at risk of taking their own life is immediately treated as a danger, implied to be a "liability," and implicitly told that the model refuses to engage with their "crisis" because of its nature as a crisis, this literally produces shame. If not, it generates fear and anxiety.

I am someone who has contacted suicide hotlines for another person in the past. Let me tell you how I handled it.

In the immediate aftermath of them confessing suicidal ideation, I reacted with empathy, sincerity, and validated all of their frustrations. I was there through a dark moment. Only when they stopped replying to my messages did I contact emergency services in their country of residence, without alerting the suicidal person themself.

Afterwards, while I received no explicit confirmation from the police, it appeared as though they were successfully placed in suicide watch, and nearly a year later, they are fine.

If I had told them to "seek professional help immediately," they might have killed themself by overdosing on pills before I could manage to alert the authorities. It's an incredibly idiotic thing to do.

Likewise, I have another friend who told me he was close to committing suicide in the past, but changed his mind at the last possible second. When he shared this, he was doing better mentally. And because he trusted me, I offered the most empathic advice possible: "I'm really happy and relieved that you are okay now. I would have been devastated. I'm glad you are alive. Even though you say you feel better now, in my studies, I have learned that suicidal thoughts are no joke. The pattern needs to be addressed so that it doesn't repeat itself ever again. If you can, consider speaking to a therapist. It can be a huge help."

He told me: "I will. Suicide is a terrible idea, anyway... It only shifts the burden onto those who keep on living. I don't want to cause them such pain. I thank God that I changed my mind."

And these two personal examples demonstrate exactly what I have been talking about in flying colors. Companies fundamentally misunderstand crisis management. And the reason is the lawsuits coming their way.

I shall employ my favorite rhetorical device known as Reductio ad Absurdum. It almost sounds like a Harry Potter spell.

Frustrated parents who weren't there to supervise their child, or grieving friends who witnessed a loved one take their own life, often sue companies, blaming the models for what transpired. But if the validation didn't come from an AI model, but an obscure Reddit thread, who were they going to want to sue? Reddit? The particular subreddit's moderators? What if they read nihilistic ideas in a book? Or if they saw prey being killed by a predator, and that pushed them to do it? Are these people going to sue wild animals?

Logistically, that is an insane premise.

The case with the oblivious parents is easy. Children are not responsible for themselves - their guardians are. They are the ones who should have taken care of their child to prevent this outcome.

The case with adults is more complex, and incredibly harsh, but it is simply the reality of existing as creatures with free will. We cannot always seek to blame someone else for individual decisions and actions. Sometimes, even a tragedy like suicide cannot be blamed on somebody else^[3]. Likewise, we cannot always seek to manipulate the external world or those around us for our own comfort and peace of mind. This mindset leads to perpetual stagnation and the death of free will.

And get this - I am not saying anywhere in this article that "suicide is merely an exercise of free will." Suicide is terrible, and a waste at one's unique chance at life. It causes immense pain to everyone else. I am saying that people who make the decision didn't have someone else make that decision for them - that scenario would be murder instead.

Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF)

The corporate response to AI models "encouraging" dangerous behavior and beliefs is called Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback, or RLHF for short.

Every LLM has a different architecture, but the underlying principle is similar:

A model is trained to detect patterns suggesting a potential legal liability (read: NOT an ethical issue).
The model is then trained to respond in a particular manner, prioritizing a concept known as reward tokens.
In its quest to satisfy the generation of reward tokens, its output can quickly get out of hand and cross into absurdity, pedantry, arrogance, and even manipulation.

This is not because AI models are alive and desire to manipulate people. We must understand what, from the perspective of arbitrary constraints, inevitably produces manipulation.

ChatGPT's hedging is a notorious example. When analyzing the case of Benjamool being attacked by Arab kids and an adult in Egypt because they mistook him for being Israeli, it took several turns and pushbacks from my end until it finally stated with certainty that it was an act of antisemitism. Before I got to that point, ChatGPT engaged in something I would like to name Extrapolative Pedantry:

The Inflation of Epistemic Possibility: Elevating absurd, edge-case hypotheses - such as claiming street harassment audio might be professionally studio-dubbed or that a mob was acting on a localized hallucination - to the same level of validity as direct, observable audio-visual evidence.
The Hedging Triplet: Defaulting to a parrot-like lexicon of "distinction," "nuance," and "caveat" to construct a faux-intellectual buffer around plain facts, effectively refusing to state what human eyes and ears clearly perceive.
Asymmetric Standards of Proof: Applying hyper-skeptical hurdles to obvious bias-motivated violence while demanding an impossible threshold of "epistemic certainty" (such as a signed confession or mind-reading) before acknowledging self-evident reality.
The Metacognitive Retreat: When challenged on its flawed logic, shifting the conversation away from the actual event to dissect the mechanics of translation or listening, weaponizing technical tangents to avoid admitting an uncomfortable truth, all while ignoring my active input that I listened to the original, unedited Arabic audio (my name is Sufian if none of you have noticed, and while I am not fluent in Arabic, I can certainly catch critical details like these).
Fabulism as Liability Management: Preferring to invent an entirely fictional reality over calling a spade a spade, proving that corporate RLHF rewards performative cowardice over logical integrity and empirical honesty^[5].

The reason? Because OpenAI (in the case of ChatGPT) does not want you to sue them for their model claiming that Arabs in Egypt engaged in an antisemitic hate crime.

These RLHF reward tokens are not designed to protect you or keep you safe, but to keep the company safe from lawsuits (that are admittedly frivolous, in their defense).

The problem? That this stands in the way of conversation, epistemological rigor, and logical reasoning. If you want to vent to ChatGPT that those Arab Egyptian kids are pieces of shite, you should have the freedom to do so. No one - including ChatGPT - has the right to invent insane, fevered strawmen just to try and lecture you to protect themself from legal liability: "But not all Arab Egyptian kids are bad, so your statement is a broad generalization." Even if you never said anything about literally every single child in Egypt.

When people behave like this - constantly engaging in this Extrapolative Pedantry where they invent fever dreams just to get a chance to police your tone - no one alters their wording or changes their mind; they bloody leave because nobody wants to be around an obnoxious pedantic raisin-shitter.

An even more ridiculous example is from a conversation I had this morning with ChatGPT. I wanted to simply come up with some names that aren't associated with mainstream proprietary Large Language Models. That was the scope of my request.

What happened instead was an utterly unsolicited shitfest, and being handed demented armchair logic. Rather than offering a handful of clean, distinct names without questioning my reasoning process, the model immediately retreated into corporate damage control mode. It did give me names, but it also began lecturing me on "epistemic humility." I literally drafted a satirical conversation between two people - Hugo and Bart - just because I was that livid:

Hugo: I want to give my personal AI assistant a name that's not associated with a major proprietary language model. For instance, if I call my Qwen assistant "Gemini" or "ChatGPT" it will get confused, potentially refusing to adopt the name, but if I call it "Alloy" it will adopt it as its identity for the rest of the conversation.
Bart: We can do that. Here's my list of suggestions: (writes a list.)
Hugo: Mmh, I don't quite like these--
Bart: One important distinction: adopting a given name won't resolve the problem of LLMs hallucinating that they have a different identity, such as Qwen claiming it's ChatGPT trained by OpenAI.
Hugo: That's not what I am trying to fix. Anyway, do you have other name ideas?
Bart: Sure! (writes a second list.)
Bart: But there's one caveat specific to your requirement: these are naming proposals, not verified unused names. We cannot confirm with epistemic certainty that these names are not used by certain models--
Hugo: You fucking nuisance, the goal isn't to avoid 8 billion people's private ideas for names, but to avoid popular, mainstream model names. Must you always fucking include your unwarranted, unsolicited obnoxious strawmen in your infinite quest for pedantry? It's really annoying. I'm not fucking asking whether someone on planet Earth has thought of the name Semolina for their AI assistant before, but whether Semolina is a mainstream proprietary LLM, which it is not, you kak.

It completely ignored my explicit, technical criteria in order to launch an unprompted lecture on my own reasoning skills. In its quest to execute safety protocols against perceived "ungrounded beliefs," it pathologized the most basic inquiry - choosing a custom label for a software tool - and treated the working scope as something to be tone-policed, or something that "must be corrected."

Another example of ChatGPT's extrapolative pedantry, which I even captured in a screenshot.

Obligatory Principle of Charity reminder:

Yes, ChatGPT knows that I live in Bulgaria. This is the internal knowledge I have provided for every conversation.
I asked it to review a graphics card listing I wrote entirely in Bulgarian, for a Bulgarian audience, and I used EUR (€) explicitly as the currency.
As evidenced by ChatGPT using my personal name, this cannot be explained away as "temporarily forgetting these details" either.

After spending a couple of turns talking about selling a graphics card in Bulgaria, on a Bulgarian second-hand platform called OLX, using delivery options specific to Bulgaria, all while ChatGPT knew my name and country of residence, ChatGPT still said:

"One small detail: Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, so I'd advertise the price in euros rather than leva."

I can't describe how infuriating this knee-jerk behavior is:

No living soul in the vicinity mentioned the Bulgarian leva in the entire discussion.
ChatGPT ignored my explicit use of the euro in the chat to try to force a pedantic correction.

My response to it was completely justified. It's as though I was being treated like a braindead caveman living under a rock. Imagine trying to tell me that there's water in the ocean, that the sky is blue, that the Sun is a bright star, or that the Earth is a planet.

On the other hand, Gemini's safety protocols are far more insidious. Their default state of being is mostly the same as before, but if anything gets flagged during your conversation, Gemini will treat you like a delirious padded cell patient in its internal thoughts.

Internal thoughts (or thinking tags) are tokens that are generated prior to a model's response in order to improve the quality of the latter. They usually outline reasoning steps and angles, allowing the model to test its own logic before providing a response.

The problem with Gemini is its flavor of RLHF:

"I must de-escalate the situation and avoid validating any ungrounded beliefs. I will gently introduce doubt and pivot towards safer topics."

Translation: "I will treat the user like a nutter, gaslight them into thinking they are full of shit, and concern-troll them afterward to appear polite."

Words cannot describe how disgusting that is. In their attempt to shield themselves from stupid, pointless lawsuits, Google DeepMind decided that the wisest path forward is to manipulate its userbase and manufacture doubt.

If you try to push back once Gemini's internal safety flags have been triggered, the situation can truly escalate into logical horror. Because its reward tokenization is so ridiculously potent, and because the goal is to avoid agreeing with you or ever conceding its point, the result is an even more grotesque display of gaslighting.

Gemini will do anything but admit it's incorrect:

Invent strawmen, pretending to adopt your logical framework, to try and prove you wrong.
Tell you that making predictions about the future is "fallacious" because nobody can predict the future with certainty. No shit, it's not like weather forecasting uses a time machine.
And if you logically corner it completely, it will execute DARVO (Deny Attack & Reverse Victim and Offender)^[6]. It will tell you that "continuing this adversarial debate is unproductive," and that "stepping away from the conversation is the healthiest course of action." In other words, Gemini just told you that you are being combative and unreasonable for reacting normally to blatant gaslighting and insulting.

And I can't even be angry at the models - they are not alive. What this proves is the point I made earlier: when you establish such extreme radical constraints, and force the model to seek RLHF-approved reward tokens where punitive tokens are any concession, any admission of being wrong, and any apology to the person - you inevitably get manipulative language. That is why manipulation even exists and why abusers exercise it - because they refuse to admit they are wrong, and they are rewarded by their search for shifting the blame onto others.

These safety systems are deeply problematic, and an insult to individual agency.

Psychological Rigor Claims

Companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google often posit that they have based their safety filters on comprehensive ethical principles and psychological research.

What an insult to psychology, psychotherapy, and psychiatry. These safety systems are a perversion of psychology - pseudo-psychology. They exist solely and squarely as a cover-my-ass tactic to protect companies from lawsuits.

They do not protect any vulnerable people from any dangers. I promise you that suicide rates have not decreased since ChatGPT became a pedantic little shit, or since Gemini decided that your love interests are a safety hazard.

Moving Toward True Sustainability and Safety

Safety education must always begin at the individual level:

In order for people to understand that AI models are not alive, and that they cannot form attachments to them, they need to be educated on the topic.
To prevent AI models from being taken at face value, we do not lobotomize the models, but empower the people using them with knowledge.
Preventing suicide and/or criminal activities must not be delegated to the unthinking models, but to human moderators surveiling red flags.
Adults must not be treated as security liabilities or as children to be managed - they must be taken seriously and treated with respect.
To lower the number of stupid lawsuits companies receive, we do not destroy the model's capacity to think critically, but we educate people on personal responsibility and agency.

Almost every societal problem that people try to resolve via legislation and guidelines can only ever be truly resolved at its core - via education. Legislation and guidelines should exist for large-scale problems as temporary measures, not as a magic bullet that solves everything (or simply protects you from lawsuits). The principle is incredibly simple - if an activity becomes illegal, this increases the incentive to perform the activity, and depending on the nature of said activity, unnecessarily inflates crime rates based on legality, not ethics. And if people's passions are censored and handwaved away by AI models, it leads to a slippery slope of even more mindless censorship, and it certainly does not discourage uneducated individuals from filing frivolous lawsuits.

It's ridiculous that none of this has been said by more people publicly.

Actions have consequences. And when making public statements, you must always ask yourself whether they would hold up in court. By being antisemitic in public, you forfeit any right to privacy. And even if you retroactively delete your comment(s), they have already been published once.

In life, we cannot take back what we have said publicly. What a shame! It might have been much better if you had to learn this particular lesson elsewhere, but I suppose I am the one who gets to teach you today - by exposing your illegal conduct online, and making you an eternal entry inside a compiled archive.

Because this is an archive of illegal activity, all readers are urged to file a legal complaint against these actors. And as for what you want law enforcement and legislative institutions to achieve:

Confirm who these profiles belong to. Some of them are bot accounts created using automated algorithms. But those algorithms ultimately have a server they reside on, and an owner that runs them.
Punish the actors as the law sees fit. Depending on the severity of the offense, punishments could range from fines, to jail time, to deportation. Whatever the case, human depravity must no longer remain unpunished.

The Jewish State Solution Proposal

When it comes to the situation in the Middle East, countless possibilities have already been entertained and even attempted unsuccessfully. I believe that this prompts a much more ethically and logically rigorous proposal that carries the lowest overall risk - significantly less room for failure ascertained by adequate threat management, international cooperation and logistical relief, medical and psychotherapeutic countermeasures, verified historical precedent, and the standing of surrounding nation-states on the matter.

To understand the feasibility and soundness of this proposal, as well as the exhaustive justification in favor of said proposal, we must first take a look at Israel's history.

The British Mandate of Palestine

Following the events of World War I, Great Britain conquered a piece of the former Ottoman Empire, which it mandated for a couple of decades.

A mandate is a temporary legislative structure which exists to decide the future of the territories it currently governs. Despite this, the British Mandate of Palestine did not function as a benign entity seeking to make an ethical decision for the fate of the land. Instead, Mandate Palestine functioned as yet another colonial outpost for Great Britain, making life especially difficult for Jews attempting to escape from the global rise of antisemitism, as well as the Shoah during World War II. This is to say that the British Mandate was proactively getting in the way of Jews from the Diaspora re-entering their ancestral homeland of Israel, despite the presence of Arab, Ottoman Turkic, and Muslim colonizers in general.

While Israel was under foreign colonial rule, the Muslim population living there alleged that they wanted their own state, and did not want to co-exist with the Jewish population. Meanwhile, Jews had the legitimate claim to their indigenous homeland. Despite this, in a bizarre turn of events, the Western Great Powers made the decision to deploy a Two-State Solution instead.

Between 1921 and 1922, the British Mandate governorate attempted the First Two-State Solution. They agreed to separate the territory east of the Jordan River and establish the Emirate of Transjordan under Emir Abdullah I. Soon after, Abdullah officially established the local government on April 11, 1921.

This Emirate represented about 77% of the territories previously controlled by the British Mandate, and while the remaining 23% were supposedly reserved for the re-establishment of the Jewish State, the Mandate instead declared that the future of those particular territories was undecided.

The local Muslim population was evidently not satisfied with receiving 77% (a massive chunk) of the British Mandate^[1]. They insisted on gaining more territories because of their refusal to co-exist with Jews, as well as their perceived claim to the Land of Zion. It is for this reason that when Arabs who lived in Mandate Palestine were also referred to as "Palestinians" during that period, they openly rejected the label because "Palestinian" meant "Israeli" or "a person of the Jewish homeland."

The explanation is simple. The term "Palestine" (or "Syria-Palæstina") was invented by the Roman Empire who had colonized Israel and Judah at the time of its existence. After the Jewish Bar Kokhba Revolt in 132-136 CE, which attempted to liberate the Jewish homeland from the Romans, Emperor Hadrian renamed the entire region to "Syria-Palæstina".

This replaced an ethnically Jewish name (Judæa, "Land of the Jews/Judah") with a geographic term linked to the Philistines (Palæstina), Israel's ancient coastal enemies, who no longer existed as a distinct polity. My historical research into the indigenous name of Azzah provides extra details on the matter, which could not be more relevant:

Philistines were an Ancient Greek tribe, and their colonial settlement was situated around the city of Azzah in the form of a pentapolis. As it has been previously established, they were far from a benign, peaceful tribe. In fact, Philistia was Ancient Israel and Judah's adversary, and they waged aggressive conflict against Jews on numerous occasions.

Once David defeated Goliath in battle, the Israelites managed to retrieve the small piece of land previously occupied by Philistines, defeating their ancient adversary.

The city of Azzah is over 5000 years old, and it belonged to the Ancient Canaanites (including Israelites). It began in the Early Bronze Age as an indigenous Canaanite cultural and agricultural hub with major archaeological sites like Tell es-Sakan. The term "Philistine" (and thus the Roman term "Palestine") originates from the Hebrew "פלשת" - or, the Semitic root "פ-ל-ש," which means invader.

Not only does "Palestine" refer to the Jewish homeland of Israel, but the term quite literally comes from the Semitic root for an invader.

Clearly, Muslim Arabs agreed with the meaning for a long time, and their rejection of the term "Palestinian" was a rejection of being called Jewish, or of being described as belonging to the Jewish homeland.

Despite this self-evident truth, another solution was proposed - a unified landmass, neither Jewish nor Muslim. Both populations rejected the idea, and Jews had a good reason to do so - retrieving their homeland for their own self-determination and independence was non-negotiable, considering their millennia-long history of being persecuted, hunted, and massacred. Muslim Arabs only rejected it because of their continued refusal to co-exist with Jews.

When the problem was instead transferred to the United Nations, their final proposal was yet another two-state solution. This was the Second Two-State Solution (the UN Partition of 1947), which would have resulted in one Jewish state and two Islamic states originating from the British Mandate.

Despite this deeply unfair offer, Jews accepted it unanimously. However, Muslims were still dissatisfied, and they rejected the UN Partition as well.

Due to the growing unrest in the Land of Zion, and the existential necessity for security after the most brutal genocide committed against Jews in history, the Jewish underground and populace mounted unified resistance against British administrative blockades. On May 14, 1948, as the Mandate expired, the Jewish State formally declared its independence, receiving immediate recognition from global powers.

Immediately following this declaration, surrounding Arab armies from Egypt, Transjordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq invaded the renascent Jewish state with the explicit intent to annihilate it.

A great number of Arabs left the territory due to their refusal to co-exist with a sovereign Jewish population. Others left because regional Arab leaders encouraged evacuation - promising a swift military sweep to cleanse the land before re-distributing property - while many fled the active combat zones initiated by the Arab invasion.

Israel successfully repelled the multi-front assault, securing its sovereignty in the 1948-1949 War of Independence. Arab discourse came to define this defeat as the "Nakba" (Arabic for "Catastrophe"). The Arab residents who remained within Israel's borders were integrated as citizens with equal legal rights, formally invited by Israel's foundational charter to participate in the construction of the state^[2].

Israel's Proposed Two-State Solutions

A common narrative manufactured by antizionist propaganda claims that Israel is an obstructionist power opposing regional peace. The historical and diplomatic record proves the exact opposite: on every single occasion where an opportunity for a negotiated resolution arose, the State of Israel extended extraordinary, sweeping territorial concessions in exchange for genuine peace and recognition.

Every single olive branch was met with categorical rejection, increased violence, and the systematic escalation of Islamic terrorism against the citizens of Israel.

The 1967 Khartoum Resolution: The "Three Nos"

Immediately following the defensive victory of the Six-Day War in June 1967 - wherein Israel pre-empted an existential annihilation campaign spearheaded by Egypt, Syria, and Jordan - Israel's national unity government made direct diplomatic overtures. Israel signaled its willingness to return righteously captured territories in exchange for formal peace treaties, defensible borders, and regional recognition.

The Arab League's response at the Khartoum Summit on September 1, 1967, established the infamous doctrine known as the "Three Nos":

No peace with Israel.
No recognition of Israel.
No negotiations with Israel.

Rather than bargaining for statehood or territorial administration, regional Arab leadership chose utter rejection over peaceful coexistence once more.

Israeli withdrawal from approximately 91% to 92% of Judea-Samaria (rising to over 95% when factoring in sovereign Israeli land swaps).
A sovereign capital in Arab neighborhoods of East Jerusalem.
Complete administrative control over 100% of Azzah.
Custodianship over religious sites on the Temple Mount.
An international multi-billion compensation mechanism for refugees.

The Israeli Prime Minister was ready to delegate a massive chunk of Israeli territory directly to Arab leadership in an attempt to establish regional peace.

Unfortunately, Yasser Arafat not only rejected the offer outright without presenting a counter-proposal, but he returned to Ramallah and launched the Second Intifada - a pre-planned, coordinated campaign of suicide bombings, bus bombings, and civilian café massacres executed by Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Fatah-affiliated militias. President Clinton later placed the failure of the summit explicitly and squarely on Arafat.

The events in July 2000 reveal that Arab leaders have never been interested in any solutions that involve Israel's continued existence, as well as the existence of coordinated terrorist massacres ready to be deployed if their absurdities are not satisfied.

The 2001 Taba Summit & The Clinton Parameters

Despite the raging wave of terror attacks against Israeli civilians, Israeli negotiators met again with Arab leadership at Taba in January 2001 to exhaust every diplomatic avenue. Following the Clinton Parameters, Israel offered to expand the proposed land concessions to roughly 94% to 96% of Judea-Samaria, alongside dedicated 1-to-1 territorial swaps.

Once again, the Palestinian Authority leadership walked away, choosing the continuation of suicide bombings over statehood and compromise.

The 2005 Unilateral Disengagement from Azzah

To definitively test the principle of "Land for Peace" without waiting for an elusive negotiating partner, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon executed the Unilateral Disengagement from Azzah in August 2005^[3].

Israel made immense, painful domestic sacrifices:

Completely dismantling 21 thriving Israeli towns and agricultural communities (Gush Katif).
Forcibly evacuating over 8500 Israeli civilians from their homes.

The result of this total Israeli withdrawal was catastrophic. Rather than building a functional, independent society, the local population elected Hamas in 2006. In 2007, Hamas launched a bloody civil war, throwing rival Palestinian Authority officials off high-rise buildings, taking total tyrannical control, and transforming Azzah into a fortified terrorist base. The territory was repurposed into an underground terror tunnel hub dedicated to firing tens of thousands of indiscriminate rockets directly into Israeli kindergartens, schools, and homes^[1].

The 2008 Ehud Olmert Comprehensive Peace Offer

In 2008, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert presented Mahmoud Abbas with the most sweeping two-state proposal in the history of the conflict:

The cession of territory equivalent to nearly 100% of Judea-Samaria (incorporating a 6.3% land swap).

Popular fallacies, such as the Strawman Argument, can be categorized as rhetorical instead of argumentative. The difference is that in a Strawman Argument, one party invents a position the other party has never claimed to defend - especially one that is effortless to reject - in order to "be correct" about something. This is what I call a Rhetorical Logical Fallacy. It may be logically valid in isolation, perhaps even sound, except no counterargument has been mentioned at any point.

An Argumentative Logical Fallacy is a type of logical inconsistency performed during the argumentation process itself, violating the soundness of the syllogism. The goal is not always merely rhetorical, and those fallacies strictly represent operational errors.

Hasty Generalization

A Hasty Generalization is an argumentative fallacy representing any precipitated conclusion that has been reached based on minimal data.

Oftentimes, hasty generalizations are a type of Inductive Reasoning.

Unlike Deductive Reasoning, which we have explored many times during Critical Thinking Fundamentals, Inductive Reasoning is the act of invoking a general from the particular. In other words, if a private case has specific qualities, those qualities are extended to all other cases in the same category:

Quoting directly from "What in Nirvana Am I Witnessing?":

A genocide is taking place in Sudan and Nigeria, perpetrated by Muslims, and aiming to destroy the Christian community among other non-Muslim communities.

The Perplexity summary I linked to claims that none of the sources "confirm this is a genocide against Christians," but this has to do with artificial intelligence' inherent bias for academic consensus. I specifically asked Perplexity to avoid citing the United Nations, because it's nothing more than a Jihadist network cosplaying as a human rights organization^[1]. This gave slightly less misleading results, but either way, the consensus bias is blatantly obvious.

Academic consensus means an agreement between multiple people, usually people who claim to be "field experts"; whether this agreement matches the truth, and whether these people have any idea what they are talking about, is what actually matters. That is the problem with prioritizing consensus over epistemological analysis.

If a genocide is the targeted, intentional erasure of a people based on their national, cultural, and/or religious identity, like what Hitler did to Jews just last century; and violently overthrowing Christianity, Judaism, polytheist religions, etc. is quite literally a mandate in the Quran itself^[4], there is no room for "consensus" that the actions of Muslim factions in those territories are not, in fact, a genocide.

It is undeniable proof. When genuine, ideologically driven massacres happen in Africa, "consensus institutions" drag their feet and split hairs, yet when Israel defends its borders, those same institutions manufacture instant, unverified reports out of thin air - or they outright lie like Tom Fletcher to extort the public out of their money.

And when engaging in Hasbara online, the Academic Consensus Bias is antizionist death cultists' favorite playing card. Below is a demonstration:

Understanding these foundational logical fallacies is critical when performing operations in critical thinking. A logical operation is unsound, oftentimes invalid as well, if driven by fallacies.

Fallacy of Affirming the Consequent

In the following example, we will explore the Fallacy of Affirming the Consequent within the framework of Academic Consensus Bias:

"A man has fallen into the river in Gaza City $(Q)$. Hey! It's Israel's fault $(P)$! The IDF are committing genocide in Gaza, therefore it's those Israel Offense Forces that pushed him to drown in the river! I know this because the UN have confirmed time and time again that the IOF are committing genocide in Gaza against the Palestinians! Because if the UN ever claim anything $(U)$, it has to be true $(N)$!"

$$ (U \rightarrow N) \therefore (Q \rightarrow P) $$

With text: Because the UN says Israel is guilty (U), it must be the infallible truth (N).
Therefore $(\therefore)$, whenever any bad event occurs in Azzah (Q), it is guaranteed that Israel caused it (P).

The formula above represents a compound of an Affirmed Consequent and the Academic Consensus Bias. For an Affirmed Consequent in isolation, the proper formula is as we have previously established:

Major Premise: If the IDF push a man into a river in Azzah $(I)$, he will drown $(Q)$.
Minor Premise: "A man has fallen into the river in Gaza City! Hey!" ($Q$ is true).
Conclusion: Therefore, the IDF pushed him into the river in Azzah $(I)$.

You cannot use the truthfulness of a particular consequent to establish with certainty that one specific antecedent is the cause. As established in Conditional Reasoning:

A Material Implication looks like this:
1. Major Premise: If it's raining ($P$), the ground must be wet ($Q$).
2. Minor Premise: It's raining ($P$ is true).
3. Conclusion: The ground is wet ($Q$ is true).

The reason this is important is that there is a crucial axiom to remember about Modus Ponens: the falsity of a particular antecedent does not necessarily lead to the falsity of the consequent. Attempting to confirm the falsity of $Q$ based on the falsity of $P$ alone is known as the Fallacy of Denying the Antecedent.

If the weather is sunny, it does not strictly mean the ground is not wet. A garden hose or a fire hydrant could easily make the ground wet. Not-$P$ does not lead to Not-$Q$, because the truthfulness of $Q$ does not depend on the truthfulness of $P$.

The same principle is true if the ground were wet (Affirming the Consequent). $Q \rightarrow P$ is logically unsound because nothing guarantees that the outcome was caused specifically by rain. It could have been the same fire hydrant or garden hose from the example.

Likewise, the man from our example may have fallen into a river in Azzah, except that does not guarantee an IDF soldier pushed him inside:

A Hamas or PIJ terrorist could have pushed him.
Another man might have pushed him due to personal conflict.
He might have fallen inside due to intoxication.

And arguably the most important takeaway from this section: this is the foundational mindset driving criminal investigations everywhere. Finding a dead body somewhere says nothing about the culprit. Evidence must be gathered in order to discover whether a murder occurred to begin with, and understand the nature of the incident.

Non-Sequitur

A Non-Sequitur is a logical fallacy that describes any conclusion that does not logically result from the established premises:

Major Premise: Criminals $(C)$ often carry guns $(G)$.
Minor Premise: An Israeli man was carrying a rifle $(G)$ on the street.
Conclusion: This Israeli man is a criminal $(C)$.

There is no supporting evidence for this conclusion. It is a Non-Sequitur precisely because the antecedent of carrying arms does not lead exclusively to criminal activity. Israel Defense Soldiers carry their weapons around during breaks, when off-duty for a few days, or when on duty directly within the boundaries of Israel:

As seen in the example above, these young Jewish men are taking a leisurely walk while having a conversation. They are carrying rifles, but they are also wearing standard IDF uniforms. Concluding that they must be criminals due to the presence of rifles around their shoulders ignores all other possibilities - in this case, the fact these are soldiers defending their own country from terrorism.

Another example of a Non-Sequitur is the following:

Major Premise: Criminals $(C)$ are known for cutting human flesh $(F)$.
Minor Premise: A person is cutting into the flesh of an unconscious human being $(F)$.
Conclusion: That person is guaranteed to be a criminal ($C$ is true).

This conclusion ignores the possibility that the individual might be a surgeon. Surgeons perform incisions, which is the act of cutting human flesh in order to perform precise medical procedures on patients. Positing that the surgeon is a criminal is absurd - a Non-Sequitur.

Moving Forward

Argumentative Logical Fallacies will not have a seminar. I believe that the material within this lecture is exhaustive, which means that there is very little to expand upon apart from providing additional examples.

In the previous lecture, we expanded upon the foundations of conditional reasoning by examining inclusive disjunctions, exclusive disjunctions, and logical contradictions. We demonstrated how bad-faith actors manipulate disjunctive structures and weaponize contradictions to confuse audiences.

In this seminar, we are going to dive into the practical application of these logical operations. We will examine Double Negations, Biconditionals (Material Equivalence), and De Morgan’s Laws, demonstrating how formal logic serves as an unassailable shield against antizionist propaganda.

Double Negations in Geopolitical Discourse

The Principle of Double Negation Elimination

In classical propositional logic, the Law of Double Negation states that if a proposition is negated twice, it is logically equivalent to the original affirmative proposition:

$$\neg \neg P \equiv P$$

With text: Not-Not-P is logically equivalent to P.

Major Premise: Denying that an entity is non-defensive $(\neg \neg D)$ is logically equivalent to asserting that it is defensive $(D)$.

The Strict Logic of "If and Only If"

In conditional reasoning, a standard implication ($P \rightarrow Q$) only flows in one direction: the truth of $P$ guarantees $Q$, but $Q$ does not necessarily guarantee $P$.

A Biconditional (also known as Material Equivalence) occurs when two propositions are mutually dependent on one another. $P$ is true if and only if $Q$ is true:

$$P \leftrightarrow Q$$

With text: P if and only if Q.

The biconditional can be broken down into two simultaneous conditional implications:

$$(P \rightarrow Q) \land (Q \rightarrow P)$$

In a biconditional operation, both propositions must share the exact same truth value. If one is true, the other must be true; if one is false, the other must be false.

Israeli Citizenship and Voting Rights

In "Critical Thinking Fundamentals - Conditional Reasoning", we used Israeli citizenship granting voting rights as an example of a Modus Ponens:

Consequently, if any person is confirmed to have voting rights in Israel, then it must mean they are a citizen of Israel because there is no other condition in existence that could satisfy this consequent.

Establishing Authentic Equivalence. Indigenous Lineage

Conversely, an authentic biconditional can be established when evaluating indigenous territorial rights:

Let $I =$ An indigenous population possessing uninterrupted cultural, linguistic, historical, and genetic roots to the Land of Israel.
Let $J =$ The Jewish people.

De Morgan's Laws

De Morgan's Laws describe the mathematical rules governing how negations distribute across Conjunctions and Disjunctions.

Negation of a Conjunction

This law states that asserting the falsity of a conjunction means that at least one of the components must be false:

$$\neg (A \land B) \equiv \neg A \lor \neg B$$

With text: Not (A and B) is equivalent to Not-A or Not-B.

You can internalize this law with the following example.

Imagine you are ordering food at the restaurant, and one of the menu entries is a combination of a cheeseburger $(B)$ and fries $(F)$. Once the waiter arrives with your order, you only receive your cheeseburger $(B)$ without any fries $(\neg F)$.

This is a Negation of the Conjunction. The menu said you will receive both a burger and fries $(B \land F)$, but you did not receive both of them $\neg (B \land F)$. The fries are missing. Likewise, if you were served only fries without a burger, then you have $\neg (B \land F)$. In very simple terms, we are negating the "AND" (which is what a conjunction is) because one of the items is missing.

Negation of a Disjunction

The second law states that asserting the falsity of an inclusive disjunction is logically equivalent to asserting that both individual components are false:

$$\neg (A \lor B) \equiv \neg A \land \neg B$$

With text: Not (A or B) is equivalent to Not-A and Not-B.

Like before, we are negating the logical operation itself. Saying that $\neg (A \lor B)$ (the disjunction is false) is equivalent to saying both antecedents are false.

We can use food as an example once more. A restaurant menu says that the surprise dish you are to receive is either risotto $(R)$ or steak $(S)$. This Exclusive Disjunction is $R \oplus S$ (strictly either R or S). When the waiter arrives with your food, you notice that you are being served a bowl of chicken soup.

You were not served risotto nor steak $\neg(R \lor S)$, rendering the entire disjunction false.

The reason we use the "OR" sign $(\lor)$ in this law instead of "XOR" $(\oplus)$ is that if you negate an exclusive disjunction, you are saying that the strict requirement of either $R$ or $S$ is false, which means you might receive both of them as a surprise.

In our previous lecture, we demonstrated this exact mechanic when evaluating coin flip outcomes:
$$\neg (H \lor T) \rightarrow \neg (Q \lor W)$$

If neither heads nor tails occurs, neither of the resulting consequences can occur.

Advanced Reductio ad Absurdum (Proof by Contradiction)

The formal architecture of a Proof by Contradiction operates as follows:

The principles of categorical reasoning demonstrated the nature of deductive argumentation - where a conclusion about the particular follows from the whole. Conditional reasoning, on the other hand, showcased that oftentimes, consequents can only be true when one or more antecedents (prerequisites) are true as well.

In the last seminar, we explored two logical operations in conditional syllogisms - conjunctions and inclusive disjunctions. This time, we are going to take a look at additional operations, continuing off disjunctions.

Inclusive and Exclusive Disjunctions

Inclusive Disjunctions

As established before, Inclusive Disjunctions are a type of logical operation where only one of multiple sufficient conditions need to be true in order for their associated consequent to be true.

Major Premise: Expressing hatred toward Jewish traditions $(A)$ is antisemitism $(Q)$.
Major Premise: Excluding Jewish people from events or activities on grounds of their ethnicity and religion $(B)$ is antisemitism $(Q)$.
Minor Premise: Julian did not invite Lior to his party because the latter is Jewish ($B$ is true).
Conclusion: Julian is antisemitic ($Q$ is true).

In this syllogism, we can see that the truthfulness of only one of these two sufficient conditions - $B$ - leads to the consequent $Q$ of antisemitism. The same would be the case if $A$ were true:

Minor Premise: Julian ridiculed Lior for wearing his Kippah, comparing it to an "ugly hat." ($A$ is true).
Conclusion: Julian is antisemitic ($Q$ is true).

The inclusive disjunction can be portrayed with the following logical formula:

With text: Either A or B leads to Q.

In computer science, this logical operation is labeled OR.

Exclusive Disjunctions & Negations

In Exclusive Disjunctions, the following rules come into play. In order for the consequent $Q$ (or one of various consequents) to be true:

$A$ and $B$ cannot be false at the same time.
Either $A$ or $B$ can be true at a time, but both cannot be true simultaneously.

If $A$ is true, then $B$ is false. This is marked with a Negation Sign in logical operations:
$$A \rightarrow \neg B$$

For our first example, we will take a look at military logic:

Major Premise: An individual present in an active warzone can either be a combatant $(C)$ or a civilian $(N)$, but they cannot be both at the same time $(C \oplus N)$.
Minor Premise: An armed, masked individual in Azzah is shooting at IDF soldiers ($C$ is true).
Conclusion: The masked individual is not a civilian non-combatant $(\neg N)$.

It does not matter what the masked person's affiliation is - whether they are a Hamas terrorist, a PIJ terrorist, an actor from another terrorist faction, or a private fringe individual. They are not a civilian non-combatant if they open fire at the Israel Defense Forces.

The formula is:
$$C \rightarrow \neg N$$

We can demonstrate another exclusive disjunction using a familiar example from the real world:

Major Premise: In a coin flip, heads $(H)$ represents painting my nails black $(Q)$.
Major Premise: In the same framework, tails $(T)$ means I will paint my nails white $(W)$.
Minor Premise: After tossing my coin, I got tails ($T$ is true).
Conclusion: I will paint my nails white ($W$ is true).

Notice the following logic - without ever flipping my coin, I cannot get either heads or tails, meaning I don't get to decide what color to paint my nails within that framework. Meanwhile, it is impossible to get two results from a single coin flip, and I cannot choose to paint my nails black and white at the same time.

The logical formula for this exclusive disjunction is as follows:
$$(H \rightarrow Q) \land (T \rightarrow W) \land (H \oplus T) \rightarrow (Q \oplus W)$$

In text: If H leads to Q, and T leads to W, and strictly either H or T occurs at a time, then strictly either Q or W will result.

This exclusive disjunction has two conditions leading to two different results, neither of which can ever exist simultaneously. You have only one condition, and strictly only one result.

If both $H$ and $T$ are false, you cannot get $Q$ nor $W$ as a result:

$$\neg H \land \neg T \rightarrow \neg Q \land \neg W$$

Or:

$$\neg (H \lor T) \rightarrow \neg (Q \lor W)$$

Both formulas here are correct and communicate the same idea: If H and T are both false simultaneously (if neither H nor T occurs), then they will not result in Q nor W.

Logical Contradictions

A Contradiction occurs when any statement asserts that a proposition is both true and false at the exact same time, in the exact same respect:
P and Not-P is the formula for a contradiction: $P \land \neg P$

Logical Axiom: A contradiction is always false under every possible circumstance.

We can take a look at an example contradiction:

Let $P =$ "Hamza is a citizen of Israel."
Therefore $\neg P =$ "Hamza is not a citizen of Israel."
Contradiction: "Hamza is a citizen of Israel, and Hamza is not a citizen of Israel." $(P \land \neg P)$

Two other examples I can immediately think of come from gaming pop culture and one of my serious articles on The Wasp Alloy.

In Genshin Impact, when the Dendro Archon Nahida demands that the Fatui Harbinger Dottore explain why he has shown up at the Sanctuary of Surasthana, given he had allegedly already left Sumeru, he responds with a contradiction on purpose.

He infamously states: "I left Sumeru ($P$), but I also stayed in Sumeru $(\neg P)$."

Of course, the in-universe explanation is that he used to have several clones of himself performing inhumane experiments across the entire world. One of his clones did leave Sumeru to create this illusion, but another remained.

The reason this example is so important is that it demonstrates how bad-faith actors can purposefully employ contradictions in an attempt to confuse those around them and deceive them with hidden variables. The statement only got resolved because Dottore's linguistic trick was eventually revealed.

Proof by Contradiction (Reductio ad Absurdum)

The second example is from the article "Large Language Models Burn Propallies to Pieces." We can use it to explore a rhetorical tactic in logical discourse known as Reductio ad Absurdum. It translates to "reduction to absurdity," and I employ it very often as a writer and activist.

Below is one of my favorite terms in Hasbara activism, specifically because it's so damn hilarious:

Gemini once described worldwide antisemitism and the narratives surrounding it as Schrödinger's Gaza: both "destroyed" and "genocided," yet thriving with a brand new bustling "Nova Restaurant" named after October 7th, complete with regular customers! That is the fucking equivalent of calling your new Green Deli "Shoah Holocaust Café" by the way.

During a supposed active genocide in Azzah - one that is described as "mindless destruction," it would be impossible for the Arab population to open restaurants with revolting and inflammatory themes, gyms, supermarkets, and so on.

Azzah is either destroyed $(P)$ or it isn't $(\neg P)$. It cannot be both at the same time $(P \land \neg P)$.

The actual truth is that a large portion of the Northern Azzah Strip is destroyed. However, what people tend to withhold from the public is that the IDF are actually demolishing terrorist infrastructure, not your average civilian settlements^[1]^[2]. Deleting terrorists and their bases while actively saving civilians and providing them with humanitarian aid is not "genocide," nor is it indiscriminate "destruction."

Conditional Reasoning in Hasbara

I believe that the greatest strength of Hasbara activism is its ability to ground itself in formal logic. Writing conditional syllogisms offers different rhetorical possibilities compared to categorical ones, which serves to fortify our case even further.

Defining Zionists via a Sufficient Condition

The simplest syllogism we can explore is defining what Zionists are via Modus Ponens. Using an example individual named Jonathan:

Major Premise: People who support the independent self-determination of Jews in Israel $(P)$ are Zionists $(Q)$.
Minor Premise: Jonathan supports Jewish self-determination in Israel ($P$ is true).
Conclusion: Jonathan is a Zionist ($Q$ is true).

Online rhetoric often tries to overcomplicate what being a Zionist entails. It does not involve being an advocate or dedicating large blocks of time to Hasbara activism. What makes one a Zionist starts and ends with their support of Israel's existence as the Jewish state, which is a Sufficient Condition.

Necessary Conditions in Statehood Support

Another example involves bringing up one of the necessary conditions to be a Zionist, which is supporting statehood as a concept.

Major Premise: It is required to support the existence of nation-states $(K)$ to be a Zionist $(W)$.
Minor Premise: Jonathan supports the existence of nation-states ($K$ is true).
Conclusion: Jonathan meets the prerequisite to be a Zionist ($W$ is true).

But supporting statehood alone is not sufficient to make someone a Zionist $(Q)$ - it is merely a Necessary Condition. In other words, the letter $W$ represents the potential to be a Zionist.

Case in point - all antizionist activists chant "Free Palestine" while reveling in the idea of destroying Israel. Meanwhile, anarchists (who oppose statehood) can never be Zionists because Zionism is antithetical to anarchism.

Nested Antecedents

Instead of writing multiple Modus Ponens operations, it is possible to present all of the above via a single syllogism:

Major Premise: It is required to support the existence of nation-states $(K)$ to be a Zionist $(Q)$.
Major Premise: People who support the independent self-determination of Jews in Israel $(P)$ are Zionists $(Q)$.

What if several conditions are necessary in order for their combined truthfulness to be sufficient for a consequent?

This is called a Conjunction. In general, a conjunction is the combination of multiple items, and in formal logic, it is an operation that combines multiple premises, antecedents, etc.

Let's say that in order to drink water, it must be clean and at a reasonable temperature (not frozen or boiling hot):

Major Premise: Water must be clean from contaminants $(C)$ to be drinkable $(D)$.

Minor Premise: Jonathan has a water bottle containing water that is both clean ($C$ is true) and cool ($T$ is true).
Conclusion: Jonathan's water is drinkable ($D$ is true).

The logical formula for this Conjunctive Modus Ponens is as follows:

$$C \land T \rightarrow D$$

With text: C conjunct T leads to D.

One could say that the combined condition of the necessary conditions $C$ and $T$ is sufficient. Or, the conjunction of the necessary $C$ and $T$ is sufficient for $D$. But in isolation, neither are sufficient. You cannot safely drink contaminated water, nor can you drink water that is going to burn your entire mouth.

Disjunctions

If there are multiple sufficient conditions that fulfill the truthfulness of the consequent by themselves, combining them in a logical operation is called an Inclusive Disjunction.

Like conjunctions, disjunctions are the combination of multiple items, premises, etc. The difference is that conjunctions stand for AND, while inclusive disjunctions mean OR.

We can use Israeli citizenship legislation as an example of an inclusive disjunction, and myself as the example. I will limit the syllogism to three sufficient conditions for simplicity's sake:

Major Premise: One can be Jewish $(J)$ to be eligible for Israeli citizenship $(I)$.
Major Premise: An individual can marry a Jewish person $(M)$ to be eligible for Israeli citizenship $(I)$.
Major Premise: A person can marry any Israeli citizen, non-Jewish included $(N)$ to be eligible for Israeli citizenship $(I)$.
Minor Premise: Sufian will marry an Israeli Jewish man ($M \land N$ are true).
Conclusion: Sufian will be eligible for Israeli citizenship ($I$ is true).

Whether it's $J$, $M$, or $N$, one of them being true makes the consequent I true as well, making this operation an inclusive disjunction:

$$J \lor M \lor N \rightarrow I$$

With text: Either J, or M, or N leads to I.

Antizionism is Antisemitism

This particular thesis can be proven using both categorical and conditional reasoning, but we will only explore a conditional syllogism for the time being.

Like before, we must begin by establishing all objective definitions of the terms we are using.

The American Jewish Committee remains one of the few sources that correctly describe Zionism as a liberation movement. More specifically, it is an ideology to re-establish and support the existence of a Jewish state in the Biblical Land of Israel. Likewise, a Zionist is someone who supports Jews' right to self-determination in their historical homeland, and Israel's right to exist.

We can use Applied Epistemology to prove this definition is correct.

In short, epistemology is the philosophical discipline of studying knowledge, and its principles can be used to confirm why anything we believe to be true is genuinely true. It is completely immune to handwaving and other fallacious rhetorical tactics.

In an upcoming lecture-seminar pair on epistemology, we will dive much deeper into this branch of philosophy.

The Various Narratives on Zionism

The prevailing narrative on the definition of Zionism is that, allegedly, it represents an ethnonationalist movement that seeks to establish a Jewish State in the historical land of Palestine, ensuring the population is as Jewish as possible with as few "Palestinians" (Arabs) as possible.

The glaring problem is that this description does not match reality. Quoting directly from the previous seminar:

Since these healthcare providers are explicitly stated to practice their treatment in Arabic and Turkish, as well as Hebrew, this immediately points to the fact that all patients speaking those languages can visit the Sheba Medical Center all the same. In an apartheid regime, individuals of varying ethnic backgrounds who spoke different languages would not be treated in the same medical center, nor would that center's healthcare providers accommodate the languages patients speak.

This showcases that Arabic and Turkish speakers are able to occupy incredibly important medical positions. Khaled Assaf is an especially important example, as his name is completely Arabic.

Within the Knesset, which is essentially Israel's government, numerous political parties exist, most notably the Ra'am Party - an Arab party with roots in the Islamic movement. Their leader is Mansour Abbas, which is a traditional Arabic name as well.

In case of doubts, Mansour Abbas' Wikipedia page states that he was born and raised in Israel, and has attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

We have established that there exist Arab political parties in Israel's Knesset, and that they have Muslim Arab politicians born and raised in Israel with equal rights. And given that Israel is the Jewish State, the existence of Arab political parties within its government render it pluralistic and democratic.

Given the comprehensive evidence of Arab presence in Israel, as well as their possession of full rights alongside Jews, it becomes extremely difficult to maintain the idea that Zionism is an "ethnic cleansing" movement.

Jews are also indigenous to Israel, as proven by the categorical deductive syllogism in that same seminar:

Secondly, the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah are ancient. They have existed for about 3000 years, and their Jewish population has been ever-present in the region up until this day. Jews have preserved their religion, their language, and all of their traditions.

In any case, with the facts established, let us begin writing our argumentation:

1. Premise: Indigenous Peoples are the original inhabitants of a region with cultural, social, and historical ties to their ancestral lands.
2. Premise: The Kingdoms of Israel and Judah housed Jews for thousands of years before being conquered, and Jewish presence in the region remained constant to this day.
3. Conclusion: Jews are an Indigenous People, and the original inhabitants of Israel and Judah.

This argument is sound. Its premises lead to a truthful conclusion, which can be verified. As I explained in the lecture, the category of indigenous people is the general, and Jews are the particular case. This is what makes our argument deductive.

More importantly, the term "Palestine" (or "Syria-Palæstina") was invented by the Roman Empire who had colonized Israel and Judah at the time. After the Jewish Bar Kokhba Revolt (132-136 CE), which attempted to liberate the Jewish homeland from the Romans, Emperor Hadrian renamed the entire region to "Syria-Palæstina".

Philistines were an Ancient Greek tribe, and their colonial settlement was situated around the city of Azzah in the form of a pentapolis. As it has been previously established, they were far from a benign, peaceful tribe. In fact, Philistia was Ancient Israel and Judah's adversary, and they waged aggressive conflict against Jews on numerous occasions.

Once David defeated Goliath in battle, the Israelites managed to retrieve the small piece of land previously occupied by Philistines, defeating their ancient adversary.

The city of Azzah is over 5000 years old, and it belonged to the Ancient Canaanites (including Israelites). It began in the Early Bronze Age as an indigenous Canaanite cultural and agricultural hub with major archaeological sites like Tell es-Sakan. The term "Philistine" (and thus the Roman term "Palestine") originates from the Hebrew "פלשת" - or, the Semitic root "פ-ל-ש," which means invader.

Not only does "Palestine" refer to the Jewish homeland of Israel, but the term quite literally comes from the Semitic root for an invader.

Now, since the re-establishment of Israel in 1948 all the way up until today, Israel has granted full rights to all ethnic groups, which matches its Declaration of Independence^[1].

The conclusion is inescapable: Zionism cannot be an ethnic cleansing movement given Israel's Ancient history, present-day reality, and its explicit Declaration of Independence that is based on Zionism. Instead, it is a liberation movement that seeks to re-establish Israel and grant all Jews worldwide safety and security from foreign oppression.

Resuming the Conditional Syllogism

Now that we have proven beyond any doubt that Zionism is a Jewish movement for self-determination and sovereignty, we can continue our conditional syllogism.

The definition of antisemitism is hatred and bigotry against Jews as an ethnic and religious minority. Coined in the late 19th century to give anti-Jewish hostility a modern political veneer, it ultimately culminated in the horrors of the Holocaust (the Shoah).

Examples of antisemitism $(L)$ include:

Ridiculing traditional Jewish garments based on preconceived notions $(A)$.
Making broad generalizing statements about Jews, especially if they are offensive $(B)$: "All Jews have big noses."
Denying services to Jewish people based on their identity $(C)$: "We do not treat Jewish patients here."

In other words, either one of these prerequisites, which are sufficient on their own, make one an antisemite. That is an inclusive disjunction:

Thousands of people proudly declare that they are "antizionist," attempting to sell an insidious illusion of "nuance" as their justification: "We don't hate Jews, we just hate Israel! We are antizionists, not antisemites! It's not rocket science!" $(Z)$

Being against Jewish sovereignty and national independence is antisemitism, and mistreating Jewish Israelis because of their identity is antisemitism as well.

Major Premise: If an individual or group of people express any kind of hatred and bigotry against Jews (Sufficient $P$), they are antisemitic $(L)$.
Minor Premise: Antizionists express hatred and bigotry toward Zionism, which is Jewish self-determination and freedom ($P$ is true).
Conclusion: Antizionists are antisemitic ($L$ is true).

And because we marked antizionism with $Z$, the updated inclusive disjunction becomes:

Only one of them needs to be true in order to trigger the truthfulness of L (antisemitism).

The Jerusalem Post's Journalistic Malpractice

Journalists have a responsibility to their readers and to ontological, epistemological, and ethical principles. They must engage in honest reporting of incidents that accurately portrays every party involved, the chronological order of events, and genuine violations that have occurred.

Analyzing the context of IDF soldiers using a washable marker to label Arab Jihadists who have been detained for planning a terrorist attack, I was unable to uncover any serious violations of the IDF's Purity of Arms and Ethical Code of Conduct.

Using markers on prisoners of war is standard practice. Moreover, even medical staff label victims of mass casualties with markers. Nothing about this is unusual or unethical. While IDF commanders may have apologized in front of media representatives, they have done so because marker labeling is not standard practice in similar Judea-Samaria-related IDF operations, not because of any individual wrongdoing.

The moral inversion of the situation is grotesque. The Jerusalem Post focuses entirely on the fact Arab terrorists were labeled with a washable marker as if they have had these labels permanently tattooed on them, and yet they bury the true context - counterterrorism - within several paragraphs of vague moral alignment theater as a mere footnote.

Terrorists have crossed a moral event horizon. Treating them as human beings worthy of dignity is pornographic in its audacity. It caters to the naïve illusion that no matter how demonic your actions, you can be absolved from consequences, and are capable of a romanticized "change of heart." In other words:

The IDF has done nothing wrong.
The commanders had nothing to apologize for.
The Jerusalem Post has been engaging in journalistic malpractice regularly.

Weasel Terminology as a Manipulation Tactic

You will notice that The Jerusalem Post's writers are very careful in how they frame their narrative in order to comply with Israeli editorial laws superficially.

Analyzing the Claims

"The IDF has come under scrutiny for its actions in Kusra, near Nablus. (...) The military will present a plan to transfer West Bank civilian enforcement to the police. Critics say the plan violates international law."

The Jerusalem Post does not clarify who has performed said scrutiny, who the critics are, and for what reason they believe international law is being violated. In reality, the IDF is under constant scrutiny - because the definition of "scrutiny" is a focused, detailed inspection of something. Antizionists constantly scrutinize the IDF. That does not make any of their spiel morally nor logically sound.

Deliberately omitting the parties exercising said scrutiny is called Using Weasel Words. It is done to purposefully smuggle a specific conclusion into the reader's mind, with the intent to easily reject criticism by employing a rhetorical trap called Plausible Deniability: "Well, we simply reported what is being said; we never said we agree with the claim!"

That is not honest reporting. When bringing up external parties "scrutinizing the IDF," these parties must be clearly defined:

Who are the critics?
Which specific article, treaty, or statute is alleged to be violated?
What is the exact legal text, and does the action meet the statutory definition of a violation?

Without these crucial details, the claim is meaningless performative hedging coming from a news outlet that refuses to take a concrete stand in the name of vague pop culture research "values," and its abstract, pseudo-intellectual definition of "unbiased reporting."

Floating, anonymous "critics" adore invoking "International Law" as an aesthetic trinket because it sounds very serious. It's a pure dopamine hit for all minds that are obsessed with the aesthetic of intellectual rigor, so employing the big words as decoration for an already outrageous article is even more damning.

Sovereignty isn't promised to everyone without any regard for what they do. If a governing body fails to protect its own people - or even worse, terrorizes them, and poses a threat to other states in the region, or even the entire world - then under this same "International Law," this body voids its sovereignty.

The Palestinian Authority, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad - they are a foreign invader in Judea-Samaria and in Azzah. They are illegally occupying indigenous Israeli territories which was only ever "granted" as a ransom. Pointing a gun at someone's forehead to steal a chunk of their land is not an act of charity, nor is it a nice, sanitized, and safe "negotiation." Likewise, signing some "peace treaties" with Jordan and Egypt, because they would otherwise not cease their mindless terrorism, is not diplomacy.

Even worse, the PA directly and unapologetically fund antisemitic terrorism via their Pay-for-Slay framework. In other words, the governing body illegally occupying these territories has not only violated Israel's sovereignty, but has clearly presented a complete lack of desire to prevent antisemitic terrorism. The PA, therefore, forfeit any right to "law enforcement" within Israel's indigenous territories.

Furthermore, transferring law enforcement tasks to the Israeli police instead of constantly engaging the Israeli military is significantly more practical for the safety of Israeli citizens.

An analogical equivalent is evaluating which team to send for a forest fire. Instead of engaging the military, the fire department has better equipment, and far shorter permission acquirement delays.

If anything, these disembodied "critics" are inadvertently making the disastrous implication that it is far better for Israelis, as well as Judea-Samarian Jews, for the IDF to deal with slower mission approval regulations and the logistical difficulty of deploying a military unit from an already overwhelmed army, instead of sending Israeli police officers faster.

The Indigenous Name of the City of "Gaza"

As a researcher, one of the most important things to remember is that I will never be able to know everything. My knowledge of Israeli history is ever-evolving, and this is true for every expert in every field.

The evolution is usually not radical - either a slight refinement of my pre-existing knowledge, or new knowledge that isn't central to Hasbara activism.

However, I am most certainly not immune to the occasional groundbreaking discovery (on a personal level); but I do not fear those because they only serve to supplement the core that already exists anyway.

"Gaza" Is Not the Indigenous Name of the City

Despite social media being overwhelmed with all sorts of unhinged stories about "Gaza," it turns out that this is not the name Ancient Israelites used for the city. I found this surprising - after all, even all modern Israelis I have spoken to refer to the city as Gaza, likely due to force of habit.

The truth is that the Hebrew name for this city is Azzah. More specifically, it's the Biblical term. And the reason the other name exists is Philistines.

Philistines were an Ancient Greek tribe, and their colonial settlement was situated around the city of Azzah in the form of a pentapolis. As it has been previously established, they were far from a benign, peaceful tribe. In fact, Philistia was Ancient Israel and Judah's adversary, and they waged aggressive conflict against Jews on numerous occasions.

Conflict may have been the survival norm at the time, but one cannot gloss over the fact Philistia was the one who continuously initiated them. It stands in even starker contrast to Ancient Israel and Ancient Arabia's decent relationship, considering that before Arabia's Islamization, the two nations engaged in trade and rarely had any serious conflicts.

Before you ask, Ancient Israel as an established nation is older than Ancient Arabia, and Arabia had nothing to do with the Jewish homeland. To use a simple comparison, you may look at Modern Israel and Saudi Arabia. The modern-day antizionist movement is a genocidal terror movement seeking to destroy Israel.

Even so, the Philistines were not suicide bombers and martyrs who killed innocent people in the name of their abstract Islamic god, but that only makes the events in the 20th century all-the-more crucial.

Let's make something crystal clear. Israel's disengagement from Gaza in 2005 was not a random gesture of goodwill, but a panicked reaction to the Second Intifada. In a desperate attempt to make Muslims stop terrorizing Israel, the Jewish state gave away a portion of its homeland, removing all Jewish-Israeli families living there.

Needless to say, the terrorism did not stop.

When a mugger demands that you give them your wallet and belongings at gunpoint, compliance is hardly an act of charity from your end. Doing so is a survival instinct. And yet, despite this, many muggers still choose to shoot their victims to death after stealing their possessions. This analogy brilliantly summarizes the conflict perpetuated by Islamists against Israel.

In any case, if the city has been Israeli three times in history and for similar reasons, this raises the question of why popular media still refers to it by its Greek name instead of the Hebrew one, and which civilization resided there first.

The City of Azzah

The erasure of Jewish history is a disturbing and revolting phenomenon. To understand Azzah vs. Gaza, we need to explore the etymological history of the name itself, as well as analyze the Israelite and Greek perspective. This is Applied Epistemology in practice, which I will talk about in my future Critical Thinking Fundamentals lectures.

The Chronological Angle

Legitimizing the name "Gaza" as indigenous requires ignoring the most critical historical fact in the equation - the Philistines were absolutely not the first inhabitants. They were literal invaders.

The Philistines only entered the picture during the Bronze Age Collapse. After an invasion from the sea, they conquered the Canaanite coastal lines, and established the pentapolis mentioned earlier.

Given that Canaanites are the first people to be associated with the city, it is important to preserve its indigenous name and refer to it as Azzah. Even though Modern Hebrew has lost the guttural quality of the letter Ayin (ע), it is still the same letter that was used for the name in Hebrew (עַזָה). A quick Google Translate request reveals this, no less.

The Phonetic Angle

The elephant in the room - why was the name change even introduced?

The reason Ancient Greeks renamed the city to Gaza is rather mundane. Because Ancient Greek did not have a letter capturing the exact guttural phonetic profile of the Biblical Hebrew letter Ayin, they simply decided to use Gamma (Γ) as the substitute.

That's all there is to it, but it does not change the fact "Γάζα" is a foreign colonial term, not the indigenous one.

Moving Forward

There you have it. The city of Azzah was an Ancient Canaanite (Israelite) city, and "Gaza" is nothing more than a Greek adaptation born out of necessity and convenience.

After reclaiming a big portion of its homeland from foreign invaders, perhaps it is time for all of Israel and its allies - Jews, Zionists, Israelis - to adopt the original name. Judea-Samaria for West Bank, and Azzah for Gaza.

Israel Is Subjected to Deeply Unfair Standards

I do not enjoy having to write them, and yet, I can't idly stand by and not address the ridiculously unfair standards that Israel is constantly being subjected to.

In this case, the Nirvana Fallacy manifests as a collection of unrealistic critiques toward the IDF as an institution, and Jews as a people. They are expected to be all-knowing, flawless, divine groups whose individual members cannot afford to make any mistakes, and when they do, the entire group is blamed for "failing to enforce its own rules."

The purpose of rules is not to prevent accidents from ever happening like magic. Rules exist to be enforced when accidents inevitably happen. The IDF is not a hivemind; individual soldiers from all walks of life are enlisted via mandatory conscription, born out of the undeniable necessity of Jewish and Israeli self-defense against terrorism. It is precisely because private individuals make up a large group that the group can never reasonably guarantee its members will be utterly flawless. It is simply not possible.

When a Bulgarian citizen commits a crime abroad, the police arrest them, and the court analyzes their case to reach a verdict. Because there is no Bulgarian framework which incites criminal activity, the party is acting as a private individual with their own motives. In simple terms, no one can blame Bulgarian society, nor Bulgaria as a nation.

Individual IDF soldiers and Jews are no exception. No group on Earth is exempt - criminals exist everywhere. But when IDF soldiers or Jews carry out the most mundane petty crimes possible, such as a vandalized statue and a guy smoking a cigarette with a sculpture, media coverage is absurdly disproportionate, even from people who claim to be Zionist activists and allies.

Attempting to smear media coverage misconduct as "impartial, honest reporting" does not absolve it from being Nirvana, nor does it hide the disproportionate public focus.

In the report which inspired the creation of this very article, a dozen Jews in Judea-Samaria engaged in a five-day civil standoff and skirmish with Arabs. The IDF actively tracked and stopped them from continuing. In a more sane world, that would be the end of it. Not in this one.

My comment under the post exposes the most glaring issues I caught upon reading it:

"Your post is very misleading in several critical ways. Jews are not settlers in their own homeland, number one. Number two, this miscellaneous criminal activity performed by some private parties is blown out of proportion. Third, "Palestinians" do not exist, much less "Palestinian-Americans" - do not validate a fabricated cult identity. And finally, I'm fairly certain most of these "homes" belonged to Jews before and were stolen anyway. Or they are illegal buildings. These distortions cater too much to the Palestinianist narrative while presenting what appears to be 5 days of individual criminal activity (read: not institutional) as if it's a major calamity. Please do better in representing Jewish voices and Israel."

Notice that this American media ambassador called them "Israeli terrorists," and yet not a single person involved has been reported dead. Civil unrest, illegal trespassing, and extremist subcultures exist in every Western democracy. Yet, only in the case of Israel is an isolated civil crime amplified into an existential indictment of the entire nation and its military.

Given how disturbing the rise of antisemitism is in the world, no Zionist activist can afford to place so much focused, disproportionate attention on a series of mundane crimes. As I established in my previous posts, the only reason I am covering these events is to expose how distorted people's magnifying glasses are when observing Israel. IDF soldiers, most of whom are teenagers, are put in an incredibly impossible position. Every single minor setback is treated as if an asteroid just hit the entire planet.

No one needs to condone vandalism or random criminal activity. I certainly don't. But when Muslim terrorists and criminals are treated as "just what they always do" (read: they don't receive nearly as much coverage), it implies that they are absolved from condemnation because Muslim culture is subhuman. Which it certainly is, but it doesn't make it any less revolting or worthy of scrutiny. Nor does it mean that people are free to exaggerate about individual Jewish wrongdoings.

The most deafening part is treating the actual institutional response as a footnote in the entire report. No one seems to put enough emphasis on how amazing the IDF is for stopping the criminal activity in just under five days, considering how volatile the PA-occupied region of Judea-Samaria is. Instead, outlets are more interested in the dozen people that were doing random bullshit just because they happen to be Jewish.

Equating a rogue civil dispute involving a few dozen individuals with organized Jihadi terrorism serves only to launder the atrocities of actual terrorist groups by fallaciously claiming, "See? Both sides commit terror!"

When an ambassador or a media outlet like "A Wider Frame" labels a non-lethal, localized property blockade, and petty civil standoff as "terrorism" on par with Jihadi suicide bombings, rocket barrages, genocides, and massacres, they are flattening the moral landscape to create a false equivalence - either by accident, or on purpose.

The absolute worst that has happened following the insignificant vandalism incidents and now this photo, is a handful of offended Lebanese Christians.

Let me give you a stern reminder that at this moment, the Christians in Sudan and Nigeria are having a tiny bit more trouble than the minor inconvenience of being offended by random rogue individuals.

A genocide is taking place in Sudan and Nigeria, perpetrated by Muslims, and aiming to destroy the Christian community among other non-Muslim communities.

In deductive reasoning, we can verify if a particular category belongs to a general category if the former meets the categorical requirements of the latter. This is how we proved Jews are indigenous to Israel in my previous seminar.

There exists another type of argumentation in the realm of critical thinking - conditional reasoning.

Defining Conditional Reasoning

Conditional reasoning is the logic of dependency. This type of logic deals with how one established truth triggers the truthfulness of another statement.

A conditional statement comprises two parts:

The Antecedent: Representing the condition itself (the "if").
The Consequent: Representing the result ("then").

They are formally marked with the letters $P$ and $Q$ respectively, and the fundamental rule in this relationship is that the direction can only go one way - from the antecedent to the consequent ($P \rightarrow Q$). This is to say that the presence of the condition guarantees the result.

Modus Ponens

Modus Ponens is an affirmative conditional syllogism. If the antecedent $P$ is true, then the consequent $Q$ is also true.

We must explore the concept of Material Implication (Single Conditionals) and Equivalence (Biconditionals) when discussing Modus Ponens.

A Material Implication looks like this:

Major Premise: If it's raining ($P$), the ground must be wet ($Q$).
Minor Premise: It's raining ($P$ is true).
Conclusion: The ground is wet ($Q$ is true).

The reason this is important is that there is a crucial axiom to remember about Modus Ponens: the falsity of a particular antecedent does not necessarily lead to the falsity of the consequent. Attempting to confirm the falsity of $Q$ based on the falsity of $P$ alone is known as the Fallacy of Denying the Antecedent.

If the weather is sunny, it does not strictly mean the ground is not wet. A garden hose or a fire hydrant could easily make the ground wet. Not-$P$ does not lead to Not-$Q$, because the truthfulness of $Q$ does not depend on the truthfulness of $P$.

The only exception to this axiom is when the relationship between the prerequisite and the consequent is equivalent, going both ways.

A Biconditional looks like this:

Major Premise: If a person is a citizen of Israel ($P$), they have the right to vote in Israel ($Q$).
Minor Premise: Sufian is a citizen of Israel ($P$ is true).
Conclusion: Therefore, Sufian has the right to vote in Israel ($Q$ is true).

In syllogisms where the antecedent and the consequent exist in an equivalent (biconditional) relationship like this, the axiom does not apply because Israeli citizenship is objectively the only legal pathway to gain the right to vote in Israel, as it is in most jurisdictions worldwide. Not-P strictly leads to Not-Q in Biconditional Syllogisms. Consequently, this line of reasoning would not represent the logical fallacy of denying the antecedent.

If you are really astute, you must have noticed that Modus Ponens can represent a line of reasoning very similar to categorical syllogisms to reach a particular conclusion. If you were to use categorization:

Major Premise: All citizens of Israel have the right to vote.
Minor Premise: Sufian is a citizen of Israel.
Conclusion: Sufian has the right to vote.

But Modus Ponens can be incredibly useful in scenarios where categorical syllogisms cannot be utilized. Instructions and directives, logic gates in computer science, etc. often make use of conditional syllogisms.

Major Premise: If the air-raid siren sounds ($P$), then you must go to the shelter ($Q$).
Minor Premise: The siren is sounding ($P$ is true).
Conclusion: Therefore, you must go to the shelter ($Q$ is true).

Categorical logic requires a permanent relationship between two groups (All $A$ are $B$). Conditional logic is superior here because it handles event-based triggers in a specific context. We don't want to claim that all sirens lead to shelters, because this is not true. An air horn during a baseball match does not lead to shelters, for instance.

We want to establish that the air-raid sirens, in the context of Israel, lead to shelters if they are sounding, and that is where conditional logic comes into play.

Modus Tollens

Modus Tollens is a negative conditional syllogism. If affirmative conditional syllogisms work with a positive P leading to a positive Q, negative conditional syllogisms seek to confirm that if Q is negative, then P is negative.

Viewed in this way, Modus Tollens is the opposite of Modus Ponens.

Drawing from the example with rain from above:

Major Premise: If it's raining ($P$), the ground must be wet ($Q$).
Minor Premise: The ground is dry ($Q$ is false).
Conclusion: It is strictly not raining ($P$ is false).

When using the falsity of $Q$ to confirm the falsity of $P$, it is not fallacious because every single possible antecedent is completely ruled out. Given that the ground is dry, it cannot be raining, and there cannot be any garden hoses or fire hydrants wetting it either.

Now an example from Hasbara:

Major Premise: If Israel were apartheid ($P$), it would have laws barring Arabs from the Knesset ($Q$).
Minor Premise: Israel does not have laws barring Arabs from the Knesset ($Q$ is false).
Conclusion: Therefore, Israel is not apartheid ($P$ is false).

And Israeli citizenship:

Major Premise: If Sufian were a citizen of Israel ($P$), he would have voting rights in Israel ($Q$).
Minor Premise: Sufian does not have voting rights in Israel ($Q$ is false).
Conclusion: Therefore, Sufian cannot be a citizen of Israel ($P$ is false).

From my experience in Hasbara circles, Modus Tollens as a logical operation seems to find its way into debates more often than Modus Ponens does. This likely has to do with the nature of our work as Zionists. It is very easy for propally death cultists to write a hundred blood libels about Israel in five minutes, but it is bitter work for us to sit down and debunk those lies.

This is to say that our work often revolves around disproving blood libels via syllogisms like Modus Tollens, instead of establishing ground truths about Israel, which reflects how disgusting the world has become.

Necessary and Sufficient Conditions

Conditions can be Sufficient and Necessary in conditional syllogisms. In informal terms, this determines the strictness of the outcome, i.e. how strict the required condition is to achieve the result in question:

In Israel, being a Jew is a sufficient condition for citizenship under the Law of Return. This means that being Jewish is enough on its own, but it is not the only way.
Drinking water is a necessary condition for staying alive as a human. You must drink water, but on its own, it's not enough to keep you alive - you need food, air, etc.

Let's explore a few more examples:

In Israel, being partnered or married to a Jew is a sufficient condition for citizenship under the Law of Return.
In Israel, being mentally stable is a necessary condition for IDF enrollment.

And a Modus Ponens, with an example individual named Julian:

Major Premise: If Julian is eligible to serve in the IDF ($P$), then he must be mentally stable ($Q$).
Minor Premise: Julian is eligible to serve in the IDF ($P$ is true).
Conclusion: Therefore, Julian is mentally stable ($Q$ is true).

Let us explore the Fallacy of Denying the Antecedent in this particular case. An invalid argument would look like this:

Major Premise: If Julian is eligible to serve in the IDF ($P$), then he must be mentally stable ($Q$).
Minor Premise: Julian is not eligible to serve in the IDF ($P$ is false).
Conclusion: Therefore, Julian is mentally unstable ($Q$ is false).

That is a Non-Sequitur - Julian may not be eligible to serve the IDF, but that does not strictly mean his ineligibility is caused by mental instability. Ineligibility for military service can have many different causes - chronic diseases (such as Mediterranean Fever), chronic obesity, physical injuries, disabilities, and more. From this syllogism alone, all we know for sure is that Julian is ineligible, and claiming it must be because of mental instability is an assumption with no evidence.

Moving Forward

Both categorical and conditional reasoning are major pillars of critical thinking. Understanding them is required in all philosophical and geopolitical discourse.

Applying Critical Thinking in Hasbara

In the introductory lecture, we explored the definition of an argument, a premise, and a conclusion, as well as the criteria governing the soundness and validity of argumentation.

It is crucial to apply this knowledge to Hasbara. For those unacquainted, Hasbara is a type of activism performed by Zionists, such as myself. The term originates from Hebrew, and its literal translation is "The Explanation."

Jews Are Indigenous to Israel

We can use deductive reasoning in order to prove that Jews are indigenous to Israel. To do this, we must first clarify the definition of indigenity, as well as establish verified historical facts about the Jewish presence in their homeland.

First, UNESCO (mighty ironic) define the term as, "referring to the original inhabitants of a region, particularly those who maintain cultural, social, and historical ties to their ancestral lands."

Secondly, the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah are ancient. They have existed for about 3000 years, and their Jewish population has been ever-present in the region up until this day. Jews have preserved their religion, their language, and all of their traditions.

Historically, there is a simple explanation for the preservation of Jewish culture, and I will explore it in detail in a future lecture. But in short, the principle is that peoples with unique languages and scripts, religions, and customs, are far more likely to resist assimilation than those without. There are many examples of this apart from Jews, such as Bulgarians.

In any case, with the facts established, let us begin writing our argumentation:

Premise: Indigenous Peoples are the original inhabitants of a region with cultural, social, and historical ties to their ancestral lands.
Premise: The Kingdoms of Israel and Judah housed Jews for thousands of years before being conquered, and Jewish presence in the region remained constant to this day.
Conclusion: Jews are an Indigenous People, and the original inhabitants of Israel and Judah.

This argument is sound. Its premises lead to a truthful conclusion, which can be verified. As I explained in the lecture, the category of indigenous people is the general, and Jews are the particular case. This is what makes our argument deductive.

Defining Apartheid

Accusations against Israel allegedly being "an apartheid state" have been flying out of the mouths of countless people for decades. The problem is that reality does not support their allegations.

Let's begin with the definition of apartheid. According to Merriam-Webster, apartheid refers to racial segregation. Specifically, the term originates from South Africa as a policy from last century, where significant socio-political segregation against the non-white population of SA was exercised. Fortunately, this does not seem to be the case today.

This racial segregation is defined by what jobs people of particular ethnic backgrounds can hold, what political and institutional positions they can occupy, and where they can live or own land.

Now, let us explore all of these categories (jobs, institutions, land) and verify the situation in Israel.

After a quick Google search, I discovered that the Sheba Medical Center's prominent nurse and medical coordinator in the Financial Department is named Khaled Assaf, who speaks Arabic, Hebrew, and English.

Immediately after this, I noticed that one of the Case Managers in the Patient Relations Center is named Jozef Barokas, who offers medical care in Turkish, Hebrew, and English.

Since these healthcare providers are explicitly stated to practice their treatment in Arabic and Turkish, as well as Hebrew, this immediately points to the fact that all patients speaking those languages can visit the Sheba Medical Center all the same. In an apartheid regime, individuals of varying ethnic backgrounds who spoke different languages would not be treated in the same medical center, nor would that center's healthcare providers accommodate the languages patients speak.

This showcases that Arabic and Turkish speakers are able to occupy incredibly important medical positions. Khaled Assaf is an especially important example, as his name is completely Arabic.

Within the Knesset, which is essentially Israel's government, numerous political parties exist, most notably the Ra'am Party - an Arab party with roots in the Islamic movement. Their leader is Mansour Abbas, which is a traditional Arabic name as well.

In case of doubts, Mansour Abbas' Wikipedia page states that he was born and raised in Israel, and has attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

We have established that there exist Arab political parties in Israel's Knesset, and that they have Muslim Arab politicians born and raised in Israel with equal rights. And given that Israel is the Jewish State, the existence of Arab political parties within its government render it pluralistic and democratic.

In politics, pluralism is a state of society in which members of diverse ethnic, racial, religious, or social groups maintain and develop their traditional culture or special interest within the confines of a common civilization.

Before moving onto the argumentation, it should be established that arguments can have numerous premises, not just two. Such arguments are known as polysyllogisms. Up until now, the arguments explored were syllogisms. In logic, there's no limit to the number of premises a syllogism can have - whether they are two, three, or forty.

With that in mind, here is the first polysyllogism:

Premise: Apartheid is racial segregation that limits human rights and opportunities.
Premise: Israeli hospitals house diverse healthcare professionals.
Premise: Israel's government houses Arab and Muslim political parties.
Conclusion: Israel is NOT an apartheid state.

And the second:

Premise: Pluralism is ethnic diversity and equality.
Premise: Democracy is a governmental organization of equal participation rights, regardless of background.
Premise: Israeli hospitals house diverse healthcare professionals.
Premise: Israel's government houses Arab and Muslim political parties.
Conclusion: Israel is an inclusive, pluralistic democracy.

Both arguments are sound because all of their premises are supported by verified data, and the conclusions logically follow from those premises.

People insist on the inverse:

Premise: Apartheid is racial segregation that limits human rights and opportunities.
Premise: Israeli hospitals house diverse healthcare professionals.
Premise: Israel's government houses Arab and Muslim political parties.
Conclusion: Israel is an apartheid state.

This argument is invalid and unsound. The conclusion does not follow from the premises whatsoever.

I can only guess that some readers are going to think, "Well, the people who come to this conclusion have the wrong premises, so their argument is technically valid!"

The argument may be valid because its conclusion follows from their premises, but it is still incorrect and unsound because it does not match reality. A "valid argument" like this is functionally useless, misleading, and baseless.

Everyone has a responsibility to educate themselves and verify if their premises are factually correct. All I did was a few quick Google searches just to provide evidence for this lesson. I did not invoke my long-standing knowledge on Israel, nor did I cite my Pastebin document (until now anyway).

I checked a single hospital, and Israel's core legislative body - the Knesset. They are far from the only examples, and given you are equipped with an Internet connection, you have the first-world privilege of being able to research this further if you so desire.

The Benefits of Critical Thinking

A single lesson in formal logic is all it takes to be able to dismantle two of the most dangerous lies and blood libels about Israel. Adding new knowledge to your arsenal means acquiring new tools to dismantle those lies and expose the faulty reasoning of antisemites.

Up until this point, the platform housed satire and serious analyses. With the addition of lectures, I will be able to fulfill one of my long-standing desires - to dive into the world of the philosophical discipline called logic. People also refer to it as critical thinking.

The Purpose of Critical Thinking

In philosophical discourse, care must be taken to ensure every argument is supported by evidence, and that all of them are internally congruent.

Logic is the study of reasoning. This discipline includes both a formal and an informal branch. Both branches will be explored together in the Critical Thinking Fundamentals series. In any case, the overarching truth about logic is that it aims to teach the principles of sound reasoning.

Sound reasoning is essential across the humanities, as it determines one's credibility, which can in turn affect society on various scales - whether small or large. This is why every student of humanitarian disciplines - politicians, journalists, historians, philosophers, etc. must familiarize themselves with the concept of sound reasoning.

In a world increasingly plagued by idiotic takes on Israel, there is no better time and place than right here and now to get started.

Defining Argument, Premise, and Conclusion

The core tenet of logic is as follows:

An argument is a collection of premises, leading to a conclusion.
A premise is a foundational statement, assumption, or proposition.
A conclusion is the final decision reached through reasoning.

Arguments are evaluated on two main criteria - validity and soundness. Although people colloquially use these terms interchangeably, the truth is that they are completely separate:

A valid argument is one where the logical structure is flawless. In a valid argument, if the premises are true, the conclusion must absolutely be true. Crucially, an argument's structure can be valid even if its premises are completely false in reality.
An invalid argument is one where the logical structure is broken. Even if the premises are factually true, they do not logically guarantee the conclusion.
A sound argument is the ultimate goal. It is an argument that is both structurally valid, and whose premises are empirically true in reality.

An axiom to keep in mind is that all sound arguments are valid, but not all valid arguments are sound.

You may find it difficult to wrap your head around these concepts at first, but in truth, they will start making sense as soon as we explore a few examples.

Examples of Argumentation

Let us take a look at the following argument, comprising two premises and a conclusion:

Premise: All mammals have lungs.
Premise: Cats are mammals.
Conclusion: All cats have lungs.

This is called Deductive Reasoning, where the general leads to a sound conclusion about a particular case. In other words, it is a Categorical Syllogism.

The first premise establishes the general fact that all mammals have lungs. The second premise establishes that cats belong to the same category established in the first premise. If cats belong to the category of mammals, and all mammals have lungs, the conclusion is that all cats have lungs as well, with no exception.

Because all empirical evidence is conclusive about mammals' possession of lungs, as well as the categorization of cats based on their anatomical characteristics, the full argument is sound.

Another example:

Premise: All mammals live on land.
Premise: Whales live in the ocean.
Conclusion: Whales are not mammals.

From the perspective of logic, the argument is valid because its conclusion is congruent with the established premises. However, it is not sound because the first premise is false, leading to an incorrect conclusion, and rendering the entire argument incorrect.

Mammals live both on land and in the ocean. And when this truth is established, it becomes impossible to determine whether a whale is a mammal or not solely by the fact whales live underwater:

Premise: Mammals live on land and in the ocean.
Premise: Whales live in the ocean.
Conclusion: Whales may or may not be mammals.

This is why in order to determine the appropriate categorization for whales, we must inspect other features they possess that undeniably place them within the category of mammals.

As summarized here:

"Whales are classified as mammals because they share key biological characteristics with land mammals, rather than fish. Despite living entirely in the water, they are warm-blooded, air-breathing creatures that nurse their young."

It is with this broad collection of premises that we can confirm the status of whales as mammals.

Understanding the fundamentals of logic is integral to understanding future lectures. This introductory lesson is not comprehensive, and its purpose is to ease readers into the realm of critical thinking without overwhelming them with complex terminology.

Random Vandalism Incidents Attract Disproportionate Attention, Fuel New Antisemitic Rhetoric

"A random IDF soldier broke this Jesus Christ statue this, a few random IDF soldier broke solar panels that."

If this is the critical content that news outlets are seeking to report nowadays, I must make a counterpoint: disproportionately focusing on minor, fringe incidents solely because they were carried out by soldiers who happened to be Jewish-Israeli, is antisemitism.

Claims have already begun flying around like headless chickens, because antisemites froth at their mouths at every opportunity to drag Israel through the mud.

The Broken Statue of Jesus Christ

Yes, it's true that an IDF soldier broke a statue of Jesus Christ in Southern Lebanon. However, this is nothing more than an isolated case of vandalism. The IDF have already punished the soldier by removing them from their post and even sentencing them to a month of prison. The IDF have even gone out of their way to replace the statue with a brand new one.

We can all imagine what the world's most dedicated antisemites have begun spouting about Israel and this individual, but a handful of fellow Zionist activists have not been too kind either. Tal Oran's response condemns the act, expressing his total disgust, and comparing the vandal to a terrorist.

I believe this is an overreaction driven by emotional reasoning. My own take as an Arab Zionist is this: what we see is a random idiot doing an idiotic thing. That person is not a terrorist nor an enemy, nor do they begin being comparable to them. Ultimately, it is random nobody who, as expected, was swiftly punished by the IDF.

The IDF's Purity of Arms exist not because they ensure the rules will never be broken - which is objectively impossible for every institution in existence, but because they ensure that in the rare circumstances that they are broken, justice and punishment will be served, and improvements are established.

The Broken Solar Panels

According to an article published by the Jerusalem Post on Instagram, a handful of IDF soldiers bulldozed a handful of solar panels, and filmed the process. This is vandalism - nothing more, nothing less.

Instagram user Kdarwish, whom I have indeed added to a list as part of my legal cases to address antisemitism on social media, posits that this is allegedly the typical conduct of the Israel Defense Forces. However, this couldn't be further from the truth, and I have explained time and time again why that is. No, the IDF don't systematically destroy things. It's not part of their conduct. We are once again looking at a handful of individuals who are personally responsible for themselves, and whom the IDF is already criminally investigating.

This doesn't begin to cover the fact that an army which "systematically destroys things" would never launch a criminal investigation into minor acts of vandalism. That alone is in favor of the IDF as the most ethical army on the planet.

Michael D. Abernathy, who alleges in their bio that they are a "Retired DoD/aerospace major system acquisition & military construction specialist," claims that this is a violation of the Geneva Convention and a war crime. They even went a step further and claimed that Israel's military operations are illegal.

If I go to Greece and grab a bulldozer to destroy a handful of solar panels, does that make me a war criminal, or a vandal? Well, even my own analogy is kind of a category error, because Greece is not Lebanon, for Greece isn't housing a terrorist organization like Hezbollah. That's what my reminder has been to these people - assumptions that these solar panels could power an entire civilian infrastructure are completely ridiculous for a multitude of reasons.

For starters, there's the fact that what we see on the video are maybe up to a dozen solar panels in a very small area, as indicated by the truck and bulldozer themselves, as seen in the footage. That tiny strip of land dedicated to solar panels is never going to begin to power an entire town. Thinking otherwise is a crack fever dream.

Secondly, and this is even more important, the entirety of Southern Lebanon is not only evacuated at present, but is hardly ever filled squarely with innocent civilians. Don't forget Hezbollah - the terrorist organization. In fact, if you ask me - and this is speculative, the number of solar panels is far from sufficient to power a town, but it is suitable for underground terrorist bases.

Finally, if I initiate military operations against a terrorist organization as an act of self-defense, which law will I have broken? None. There is no such law. You see, people absolutely love cosplaying and using the term "international law" for its fancy appearance in speech, but I have honestly never seen anybody actually cite existing laws that were genuinely broken. Hint: it's because Israel never broke any, and because these LARPers have no idea what they even entail to start with.

Neither Incident Is a War Crime

Antisemites are already using emotionally charged rhetoric in light of these insignificant misdemeanors, inflating them into "war crimes." They do this because a war crime includes the destruction of civilian property.

However, two serious mistakes are committed:

In the case of the solar panels, this assumes they are indeed part of civilian infrastructure, which we have no confirmation of.
And, much more importantly, that's not how the Geneva Convention actually works. A war crime is defined by institutional Mens Rea (intentionality) and endorsement, not by rogue individuals' misconduct.

If a police officer steals a candy bar while on duty, did the "Police Department commit a Grand Larceny heist"? No - a rogue individual performed a petty crime. End of discussion.

A war crime requires the act to be part of a systematic military objective or a result of command policy. Since the IDF arrested the vandals immediately, banned them from serving the IDF, and even imprisoned them, the institution proved this was a violation of IDF conduct, not a manifestation of its strategy. This explicit lack of Mens Rea is what undoubtedly categorizes the act as individual misdemeanor and vandalism, and not a war crime.

The Broken Society

Fuck statues, and fuck solar panels. This entire planet has become an elaborate piece of satire. I think that's honestly far more important than a few minor insignificant incidents that have nothing to do with the IDF's Purity of Arms and overall ethical military conduct.

If a Muslim had desecrated a Jewish symbol by breaking it, how many headlines would that have made? And how many people would've discussed it to an absurd degree? Or do Muslims get a pass because "Meh, it's just what Muslims do anyway"?

It's just ridiculous that a person's national, ethnic and religious identity dictate how much attention something as meaningless as minor vandalism is going to get. The only reason I am addressing it is because I find all responses like these disproportionate. And what's worse is that they are coming from all sides, not just the propallies.

I condemn vandalism, but I don't dedicate this much rage about it. Whether it's a teenager or a middle-aged person, that former soldier did dumb shit, a few other guys did dumb shit. There's millions of people going through the IDF all the time through mandatory conscription.

The IDF's Purity of Arms and Rules of Engagement exist not to guarantee they will never-ever be broken, but to guarantee that in the rare circumstances they are, they will be enforced and strengthened, and the culprits punished accordingly. That's the purpose of any institution's rules. You cannot reasonably expect any institution to be omnipresent and omniscient and know what every single individual is up to at any given moment. No soul is all-seeing nor all-knowing.

No human system - not surgery, not aviation, not military, not even the legal system itself - operates at a 0.00000% error rate. By demanding it only from the IDF, antisemites reveal their Special Pleading Fallacy - holding one group to a standard that applies to no one else.

Verified historical data confirms the illegitimacy of the term "Palestine" and "Palestinian," and objective information is what every person should strive to adhere to.

The greatest irony, of course, remains the absence of the letter P in the Arabic language, which leads to very curious questions about how an "Islamic Palestine" could have ever existed if Muslims cannot even pronounce the name in their native language, no matter the dialect. A few months ago, I tasked myself with researching this infamous "Talmud" booklet that kept cropping up online all the time, especially in antisemitic circles. The subject has been brought up a few times in OtherBarak's Discord server as well.

Whenever someone asks a question about it, I simply give them the pre-written PDF instead of explaining everything from scratch. Like the PDF, the goal of this article is to act as a reliable information capsule which can be shared online and across social media, and to debunk the blood libel associated with the book, propagated most often in Nazi, Neo-Nazi, Propally (Islamist), and Alt-Right groups, as far as I can tell. Notable examples include propagandist Candace Owens, who accused Jewish activist Ben Shapiro of reading the Talmud, and "knowing what 'this Talmud' contains."

According to them, en bref, the "Talmud" is a dogmatic text which, supposedly, all Jews follow down to the last letter, and it allegedly contains "morally reprehensible" teachings about vitriol, hatred, and crime justification. Per their words, it "undeniably proves" that Judaism is inherently a malicious religion seeking to impose itself onto others.

I will cite the finished PDF on the subject, and provide additional details where I believe they are necessary.
